High-performance SSD equipped with heat sink

time:2021-01-24 08:48 author:Heat sink design click:

Solid state hard drive heat sink
Since the M.2 solid-state of the NVMe protocol came out, its powerful transmission performance has been praised by people, and has even become synonymous with high-end solid state drives. However, the solid-state performance of NVMeM.2 is powerful, but the heat generated by it is also huge. Such a large heat accumulation will not only cause the performance of the SSD to decrease, but it is more likely to lose data or even damage the hard disk. For this reason, Taipower released an upgraded version of the heat sink of Taipower Phantom NP800, Taipower Phantom NP900C, let us take a look at how this high-performance SSD equipped with a special heat sink performs!
First of all, on the packaging is a red Teclast Phantom NP900C, and the logos of Hui Rong, NVMe and PCIe. The overall style is biased towards simple style.

After opening the package, I saw that the plastic box contained a Teclast Phantom NP900C, and two screws were included. The additional screw seemed very considerate.

From the appearance, Taipower Phantom NP900CSSD adopts the current mainstream standard M.2 interface, supports NVMe1.3 transmission protocol, and supports PCIe3.0x4 channel. The transmission bandwidth of up to 32Gbps not only brings stronger read and write performance, but also its life span and stability have been improved to a considerable extent.

In the heat dissipation vest, Teclast Phantom NP900C uses a newly designed composite fin heat dissipation structure this time. The combination of an alloy heat sink on the top and the alloy heat sink fins in the middle forms a ventilation duct, which effectively increases the air contact area and improves the heat dissipation efficiency.

Memory heat sink
The back of the PCB version is equipped with alloy heat sinks and the top heat dissipation vest to form a 3D heat dissipation structure to release accumulated heat in all directions. Each alloy heat sink is also glued with high thermal conductivity thermal conductive glue to ensure that the heat dissipation channel is unobstructed, and the heat is quickly discharged and dissipated along the air duct.

It is said that this time Teclast not only uses a new heat dissipation structure, but also uses a high thermal conductivity alloy, which increases the heat dissipation efficiency by 40% and reduces the temperature by more than 20°C.

For this we also conduct tests. After we use HDTUNE to write full disk to Taipower Phantom NP900C to push the main control performance to full load, we use CDI to monitor through the main control temperature sensor to measure the real-time temperature of the main control. The results show that even after the full disk is fully loaded, the maximum temperature is only 55°C, and the heat dissipation effect is very good.

CDI temperature measurement during full writing
Because the heat dissipation vest is tightly bonded to the particle master, it is difficult to disassemble. It is more likely to be damaged, so dismantling was abandoned in order to ensure its safety. According to Taipower's official data, Taipower Phantom NP900C uses Huirong SM2263XT high-performance main control. Using HMB host cache technology, the maximum continuous reading of the main controller is up to 2400MB/s, the maximum continuous writing is up to 1700MB/s, and the 4K random read and write performance is up to 280KIOPS and 250KIOPS, which is quite good.

In terms of flash memory particles, Taipower Phantom NP900C1TM.2SSD uses Intel’s original 64-layer 3DNAND particles. The life and performance of Intel's particles are quite reliable.

Performance Testing
Next, we conduct performance related tests through software, and we use CrystalDiskMark, ASSSDBenchmark, and ATTODiskBenchmark to test.
CrystalDiskMark is a commonly used hard disk testing software with comprehensive test items, including continuous reading and writing, 4K reading and writing, and IOPS throughput testing.

CrystalDiskMark
In the CrystalDiskMark test, the Teclast Phantom NP900C1TM.2 SSD has a continuous read speed of 2154MB/s and a continuous write speed of 1829MB/s. In addition, with the blessing HMB host cache technology, 4K random read and write performance up to 57MB / s and 139MB / s, its performance is already 4-5 times SATASSD, very tough.
Then we immediately conduct the ATTO test. ATTODiskBenchmark performs read and write tests on data packets of different sizes from 0.5k to 64MB, which can objectively reflect the performance of the SSD in actual use.

ATTODiskBenchmark
From ATTO's test results, we can see that the maximum continuous read and write of the Teclast Phantom NP900C1TM.2SSD reaches 2070MB/s and 1828MB/s, which means that the 4K read and write speeds of random read and write reach 242MB/s and 323MB/s, and the performance is strong.

Finally, we use the currently recognized SSD professional testing software ASSSDBenchmark for testing. The software covers a variety of read and write test items, including continuous read and write, 4K random read and write, disk seek time and other data tests.

ASSSDBenchmark
In the ASSSD test, the Taipower Phantom NP900C1TM.2SSD ran out of continuous reading and writing of 1908MB/s and 1689MB/s, 4K random reading and writing of 40MB/s and 127MB/s, and 4KIOPS reached 108KIOPS and 327KIOPS.
Evaluation summary
After passing the test of professional testing software, we can see that this Taipower Phantom NP900C1TM.2SSD is indeed an excellent NVMeSSD. Sufficiently powerful read and write performance with super large capacity 3DNAND, fully meet the needs of system disks and even data disks. Moreover, Teclast has also specially equipped the Phantom NP900C1TM.2SSD with a professional heat sink with a composite fin heat dissipation structure and a Huirong high-performance main control to ensure data security and stability. Based on its current price of close to 1 yuan 1G, it is fully capable of becoming an excellent choice to replace large-capacity mechanical hard drives.
